The Rhodes Scholarship, a prestigious international fellowship, has selected two Seattle University finalists. While having two finalists from one university is rare enough, the two are also roommates.

TJ Sheehy, political science major and Kai Smith, senior political science and history major, discovered two weeks ago they had been selected as finalists.

Portland State's sustainability department is applying for a $10,000 grant that could result in cleaner water across campus.



Liz Simmons, an urban studies graduate student at Portland State, is spearheading one of many new sustainability projects on campus, called the Take Back the Tap campaign, inspired by a national campaign of the same name. The campaign aims to reduce the amount of bottled water purchased and consumed at PSU, also a goal of sustainability. Her campaign is working alongside the sustainability office's grant proposal.

When 64-year-old Ron Swan was diagnosed with prostate cancer a couple of months ago, the Portland State chapter of Phi Delta Theta rallied around Swan and decided the best way to help their ailing friend was to … grow mustaches.



After Swan's diagnosis, fraternity President Dalton Higginbottom did some research and found "Movember," an international event that turns November into a month-long mustache growing contest designed to raise awareness and money for prostate cancer.
